GemThane Liquid Metal is a metal-filled polymer which forms a tough metal-like finish. It is used to protect iron and steel from corrosion in any situation up to and including severe service, e.g. immersion environments. It incorporates two metallic additives for both barrier and galvanic protection (aluminum flakes and zinc), which are dispersed in a robust polyurethane resin. It can be applied to both bare or pre-painted metal surfaces of all kinds. For atmospheric service, wire brush the surface, apply GemBond Surface Conditioner as directed, and apply Liquid Metal. For immersion conditions, abrasive blasting is required for carbon steel substrate and No-Blast GemBond Surface Conditioner is recommended for galvanized substrates.

GemThane Liquid Metal is activated by the user’s choice of three catalysts (slow, medium, or fast). Once the catalyst is added and stirred thoroughly, GemThane Liquid Metal can be applied in the same manner as an oil-based paint. It can be used on its own (two coats recommended in that case) or top-coated with one of our Aliphatic products. Solvent-dispersible: ventilation required when applied indoors. The finished product looks like galvanizing. GemThane Liquid Metal may be applied at temperatures down to -15ºC (5ºF), facilitating year round application. For use in less critical areas, you may wish to consider GemThane Aluminized Primer (single component) as an alternative.
